FLOw-                                                  ers

Conceptual Framework: The Kinesiology of Time

Within the domain of interactive digital media, the temporal progression of natural phenomena is traditionally treated as a fixed, linear constant. The installation titled FLOw- ers subverts this paradigm by subjecting the natural life cycle of botanical subjects to real-time human kinesiological control. By linking the organic, slow-motion phenomena of blooming flowers to the immediate, dynamic input of human hand gestures, a unique cybernetic feedback loop is established. In this environment, the viewer's physical movements are directly translated into a chronological force, allowing for the acceleration, deceleration, and reversal of natural botanical growth.

Algorithmic Architecture: Machine Learning and Computer Vision

The technical infrastructure of FLOw- ers is heavily reliant on the integration of advanced computer vision algorithms. To accurately capture the nuanced physical input of the user, the MediaPipe machine learning framework is utilized. This framework is explicitly deployed to detect and track the complex articulation of the human hand in three-dimensional space. High-fidelity skeletal data, consisting of precise spatial coordinates for individual joints and fingertips, is extracted continuously from a live video feed without the need for physical controllers or wearable sensors.

Temporal Manipulation and Cybernetic Interaction

Once the biomechanical data is extracted, the digital coordinates are subsequently routed into TouchDesigner, a node-based visual programming environment. Within this architecture, the gestural data is mapped directly to the playback parameters of high-resolution, time-lapse video sequences featuring blooming floral specimens.

Specific hand gestures and spatial coordinates are mathematically assigned to govern the chronological phase and velocity of the visual output. For example, the expansion of the hand may be algorithms mapped to drive the time-lapse forward, inducing the physical bloom of the flower, while the contraction of the hand reverses the temporal flow. Through this real-time interaction, the user is transformed from a passive observer into an active agent of temporal manipulation, dictating the organic rhythm of the digital environment purely through physical presence.
